Dear Old Bruce

Dear Old Bruce

Dear Old Bruce: a collection of letters between a father and his son, with other correspondence, 1942-1952.  From the personal papers of Frank A. Kemp, Sr. Compiled and edited by Sally Kemp Atkinson. Book designed and co-edited by Josie Iselin. Edition of 38. 280 pages, 9” x 12” full color, linen-covered hardback with foil stamp.

Dear Old Bruce presents the full correspondence of letters between Bruce Kemp and his father, Frank, during Bruce’s time in the Army starting in 1942 until his death on Okinawa in 1945. The letters are strikingly detailed, filled with love and uncertainty, bravado and humility. Both sides of the conversation are included making it a complete conversation based in profound love between a father and his son. The story continues after Bruce’s death with Frank’s investigation into how his son perished and the decisions around his final resting place. It is profoundly moving and a testament to the power of personal letters to bring a person and his or her time and place alive. Commissioned by the Kemp Family.
